Tanzania has two bar associations which are members of the East Africa Law Society: the Zanzibar Law Society and the Tanganyika Law Society. Tanzania has ratified the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. QUICK FACTS 48.5% of prisoners in Tanzania are pre-trial detainees. Prisons in Tanzania are at currently 145.1% over capacity.
