If the accused was forced or coerced to participate in the crime, the defense lawyer can argue the defense of being forced or coerced (duress). When many accuseds are involved in a case and any one of them may have been coerced by the others, the lawyer often employs this type of defense and argues that the defendant performed the unlawful act out of an immediate fear of injury.
